Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). ***Peanut is scheduled to attend our upcoming adoption event at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the July 11-12 weekend. An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue (no need to register or login). Questions about peanut and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8gmail; please do not call the Rescue's number.*** Peanut and Jelly were both found discarded on a property in a very rural part of Wheeler County, GA. They were taken in by the same man who also found 12 adult dogs chained to trees in the woods. Peanut and Jelly came to SoCo Rescue on the same day that we also took in some of the chained dogs. Peanut is a very friendly, very active little boy. He loves to run and play and loves to tussle with his human counterparts. He's well socialized towards both people and other dogs. His ideal home would be one that can offer him plenty of rom to run and play or allows for multiple leash walks everyday. Peanut has received an update on all of his annual vaccinations and de-wormings as well as being kept current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. He has also been neutered and did test negative for heartworms and parasites during his recent vet examination. Peanut is accustomed to staying in a crate with very minimal accidents but may still need additional house training once in a home.

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
