Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). ***Jelly is scheduled to attend our upcoming adoption event at the Tractor Supply in Ringoes, NJ over the July 11-12 weekend. An application for her adoption can be submitted at socorescue (no need to register or login). Questions about Jelly and/or our adoption policy should be sent to socorescue8gmail; please do not call the Rescue's number.*** Jelly and her brother Peanut were both found discarded on a property in a very rural part of Wheeler County, GA. They were taken in by the same man who also found 12 adult dogs chained to trees in the woods. Jelly and Peanut came to SoCo Rescue on the same day that we also took in some of the chained dogs. Being simply adorable isn't Jelly's only positive trait. She's also very friendly and playful, but would rather curl up in your lap and get a belly rub than anything else in the world. She's a very gentle little dog who gets along great with people and other dogs alike. Jelly has received an update on all of her annual vaccinations and de-wormings as well as being kept current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. She has also been spayed and did test negative for heartworms and parasites during her recent vet examination. Jelly is accustomed to staying in a crate with very minimal accidents but may still need additional house and leash training once in a home.

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
