Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua. Meet Winnie! Winnie is a sweet, fun-loving little Chihuahua weighing just 7 pounds and estimated to be around 7 years old. Before coming into rescue, Winnie had never experienced life outside, so every day is a new adventure for this curious little girl. Winnie loves being part of the family and especially enjoys gathering around during mealtime. She gets along wonderfully with children and dogs of all sizes, but she's also perfectly happy entertaining herself with toys or exploring her surroundings. Because she is so curious, Winnie would love a securely fenced yard where she can safely take in all the sights, sounds, and smells the world has to offer. When the day's adventures are over, Winnie is all about comfort. She loves curling up in a cozy bed under a warm blanket and will happily shower her favorite people with kisses. Winnie has a few minor medical quirks that don't slow her down. She has cataracts, but they are not expected to progress quickly, and while her kneecaps occasionally pop in and out (luxating patellas), she doesn't let that stop her from running, playing, or enjoying life. Before entering rescue, Winnie was paper trained and has been doing very well with her house training. She isn't a fan of being crated but is comfortable relaxing in a playpen or exercise pen when needed. Like many Chihuahuas, Winnie takes a little time to warm up to new people and can be a bit nervous in unfamiliar environments. Once she feels safe, though, her playful personality shines through, and her silly antics are guaranteed to keep you smiling. If you're looking for a loyal little companion with a big heart, a curious spirit, and plenty of love to give, Winnie may be the perfect addition to your family.

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
