Description
Dog Breed: Cane Corso Mastiff (medium coat). Ozzy a gorgeous, young, large, and very gentle Cane Corso who isn't always aware of her size. She is friendly, curious, and playful, ready to learn about the world while having fun and bonding with her people. OTHER PETS: Ozzy is at an age of curiosity and fun, and has shown great interest in other dogs. Due to her size however, we were not able to observe a play-date with another dog as she would need a playmate who is similarly sized, well socialized, interested in other dogs, and able to manage the rough and tumble style and strength of a young, large breed. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement, and helping a young, strong dog discover the benefits of loose-leash walking and other important skills will be an important part of Ozzy's journey from a young pup to mature, well socialized adult. It's also helpful for an adopter to have the physical strength to simply hold a leash for life's temptations. Please note, physical strength does not mean a heavy hand. Like any dog, Ozzy is capable of learning all the skills that help dogs safely share a home with us. [Experienced/Willing to Learn] KIDS: [Older (18+)] Because Ozzy is large and playful, and adult-only home is best. ACTIVITY LEVEL: Ozzy is young and curious, and will do best with regular exercise and playtime in safe areas or leashed, combined with mental enrichment such as scent games, food puzzles/scatter feeding, and ongoing learning that's fun. Physical exercise and mental enrichment will help meet any dogâs needs and both are a great way to learn about Ozzy's favorite activities. [Active/Young] VETERINARY CARE: [Average for Large Breed] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Ozzy is still young and will thrive with positive reinforcement and happy experiences as she learns new skills & fun tricks. Positive reinforcement is will help Ozzy build confidence as she matures while bonding with her guardian/family. She will also benefit from slow introductions to the world including handling, leash skills, jumping, and novel people, places, and even scary things. New experiences should occur slowly, at her pace, paired with high value treats to create pleasant associations. Reading body language will be an important part of raising a well-adjusted dog, which can be found on our website: .tjoconnoradoptioncenter/resources/dog-resources GROOMING: [Minimal]

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
