Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. Location: Louisville, KY Available: Apollo 7 months old / Neutered Male / 43 lbs Dog friendly Kid friendly ✔️ Neutered male ✔️ Up to date on vaccinations ✔️ Microchipped ✔️ Heartworm negative Apollo is a happy, playful, affectionate red heeler puppy with a sweet personality and a love for dogs, people, water, and adventure. At just seven months old, he’s already overcome an incredible start to life. Apollo arrived at a local animal shelter scared and overwhelmed, shutting down to the point that he wasn’t able to show his true personality and was placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, he’s making the most of his second chance through foster care—and he’s blossoming more every day. While he’s still a young puppy discovering the world around him, Apollo is growing into himself and showing all the qualities of a loving, loyal companion who will be a great addition to the right family. Since being in our foster home, Apollo has flourished and grown tremendously in confidence! He has learned basic commands like sit, down, and paw (his version of “shake”). Apollo loves playing with other dogs and has thrived at dog daycare, where he gets to run, chase, play with friends, and splash around in the pool. He also enjoys visiting a local dog bar, where he gets to meet new dogs, play, and cool off in the water. Apollo absolutely loves other dogs and would likely thrive with a playful Apollo absolutely loves other dogs and would likely thrive with a playful canine companion. That said, he could also be very happy as the only dog in an active home that will provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and opportunities to continue building his confidence. Apollo is continuing to open up more to new people every day. He can still be timid when meeting strangers, but once he knows you are safe, he becomes the classic velcro dog. He has also made great progress with his kennel training. His time at the shelter means being left alone can still feel scary at times, but he continues to build confidence and improve. As a young puppy, Apollo still has lots of energy, but he is learning how to settle and doesn’t need as much attention from his foster parents while they work from home. A morning walk helps him start his day off right, and regular opportunities to play and chew on puppy toys keep him happy. Apollo loves car rides and going places with his foster parents. He has even been able to spend time at dog-friendly breweries and restaurants, patiently laying by his foster parents’ feet. Apollo’s Perfect Match Apollo is looking for a family that will continue building his confidence while including him in everyday life. His ideal home would have: ❤️ A patient family who will let his confidence continue to grow A playful dog companion would be a wonderful bonus, but an active family committed to providing regular socialization and adventure could also be a great fit. Active people who enjoy daily walks, hiking, or outdoor adventures Opportunities to keep learning through training and new experiences A family who wants a best friend for road trips, brewery patios, and everyday errands Apollo’s Favorite Things Swimming, splashing, and playing in the water Making new dog friends Car rides and tagging along wherever his people go ️ Exploring parks, trails, and new places Treats and snack time ❤️ Relaxing close to his people after a day of fun Questions? melissamader08me Ready to meet Apollo? Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
