Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. Location: Louisville, KY Apollo 6 months old/ Neutered Male/ 37 lbs Louisville, KY Apollo is a playful, sweet red heeler puppy. Apollo was dropped off at his local animal shelter. Being a young pup, the shelter environment was very overwhelming for him. This caused Apollo to be shut down & not feeling safe enough to meet potential adopters so he was put on the list to be euthanized. Luckily ACDRA was able to rescue him & place him into a foster home! Since being in our foster home, Apollo has flourished & gained his confidence in himself! Apollo has quickly learned to sit, down & to patiently wait for his food to be served (this is a true test of patience as he loves to eat!) Apollo loves other dogs! He fell quickly into line, following along & accepting his role with our resident cattle dog. He has done very well at our local dog park bar; will run & chase for hours with a playmate. Apollo feels most secure with another dog in the home & would love to have a playful & patient dog sibling. Apollo is still learning he can trust new people. He gets very timid when meeting strangers, but once he knows you are safe, he becomes the classic velcro dog. His time at the shelter means he doesn’t enjoy being left alone in a crate & being away from his people still feels scary for him. As a puppy, Apollo still has a lot of energy, but with a few walks throughout the day & outlet for his puppy chewing/teething, he is able to be patient while his foster parents work from home (with the occasional mid-meeting bark). Apollo enjoys car rides & going places with his foster parents. He has even been able to spend time at dog friendly breweries & restaurants, patiently laying by his foster parents’ feet. Looking For: ✔ Someone who appreciates a loyal sidekick ✔ A playful dog sibling ✔ Active, outdoorsy humans ✔ Plenty of walks, adventures, & opportunities to learn ✔ People who understand confidence takes time to build Casting Call: My Ideal Forever Family Bonus Points For: Water adventures Car rides Hiking trails Snacks A comfy spot near my people Apollo's Stats Age: 6 months (est. birth Jan. 2026) ✔️ Neutered Male ✔️ Up to date on vaccinations ✔️ Microchipped ✔️ Heartworm negative Questions: melissamader08me Apply to adopt Apollo: Complete an Application: .acdra/adoption-application

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
