Unless otherwise noted, ALL animals are fostered and available for adoption on Long Island, NY. Meet Houdini Age: 9 months Weight: 32 lbs Houdini is a happy, athletic young pup with a playful spirit and endless potential. If you're looking for an adventure buddy who will keep you active and make you laugh every day, Houdini may be your perfect match! Like most adolescent dogs, Houdini is full of energy and still learning the ropes. He loves walks, runs, exploring, and anything that lets him burn off some puppy energy. Once he's had exercise and mental stimulation, he's happy to relax and spend time with his favorite people. Houdini is house-trained, crate-trained, knows basic commands like "sit," and happily goes into his crate when asked. He's very food motivated, making him an excellent candidate for continued positive reinforcement training. Because he's an enthusiastic puppy, Houdini can become mouthy during play and is still working on his manners. He'll thrive with an experienced adopter who understands adolescent dogs and is committed to helping him become the amazing adult dog he's destined to be. For this reason, he is looking for a home with teens or adults rather than young children. Houdini enjoys other dogs with proper introductions and would love an active family that can provide structure, consistency, and plenty of daily exercise. A securely fenced yard is a bonus, but an active lifestyle is even more important. Houdini's Ideal Home Active adopter or family Experienced with young, energetic dogs 12 and older or adults only Committed to ongoing training and enrichment Plenty of exercise, structure, and love Houdini is an incredibly sweet boy who simply needs someone willing to invest in this stage of his life. With guidance, patience, and consistency, he will reward his family with unwavering loyalty, endless fun, and years of companionship.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
