Description
Dog Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier (medium coat). Reign is a young dog with a lot of curiosity and love to share! She is fairly active in regards to her energy level, so will likely do best with someone that can match her needs with their lifestyle. She has also been quite vocal during her stay here at TJO, so probably wouldn't be a good match as an apartment dog, but would be more than willing to claim a soft place on the sofa next to her new people during movie night. OTHER PETS: Reign is very excited to meet other dogs, and often thinks that everyone wants to be her friend. She tends to come on a bit strong for most dogs, though, and can be pushy in her attempts to get them to play with her. She would likely get along best with another patient, well-socialized dog that doesn't mind some rough and rowdy play. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Reign would do best with someone that has experience with young, energetic dogs as well as experience with positive reinforcement, or the willingness to learn, to help Reign learn important skills while having fun and making happy associations. [Some Experience] KIDS: Reign can be jumpy and wiggly in her excitement, any children she might live with should be old enough to withstand a jumpy youngster, and understand how to respectfully spend time with a dog. Interactions between children and dogs should always be actively monitored to ensure that both parties remain comfortable and safe. [12+ (Must Meet First)] ACTIVITY LEVEL: So far during her stay at TJO, Reign has been excited to meet everyone and is always happy to spend time outside playing, Reign loves toys, treats, and games. It's possible her energy level could change in a home once she decompresses , but she currently loves to be active and play with her favorite people. A combination of mental enrichment and physical activity will help fully meet her needs. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] GROOMING: [Minimal] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Reign is still at the beginning of her training journey, and will do best learning with someone who offers patience as she acclimates to her new home and environment. Positive reinforcement will help Reign not only learn new skills and fun tricks, but also help her to bond with her new owner while building confidence. [Moderate]

Breed overview
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
A.K.A.: Stafford, Staffy, English Staffy, Staffie, Nanny Dog
Overview:
The Staffordshire Bull Terrier, affectionately known as a "Staffy," is a robust and agile breed originating from 19th-century England, bred for its strength and courage. Physically, they are compact and muscular, with a broad head, pronounced cheek muscles, and a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors. Despite their powerful appearance, Staffies are renowned for their affectionate and gentle nature, particularly towards children, earning them the nickname "nanny dog." They are intelligent, highly trainable, and thrive on human companionship, making them excellent family pets. Their relatively small size and moderate exercise needs mean they can adapt well to apartment living, provided they receive daily walks and mental stimulation. Generally a healthy breed, they can be prone to certain conditions like L-2-Hydroxyglutaric Aciduria (L2HGA), hereditary cataracts, and patellar luxation, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. With proper socialization and training, a Staffy will be a loyal, devoted, and entertaining companion.
