Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Leo, a charming terrier/heeler mix who is looking for his forever home! At around 6 years old and weighing in at 28 lbs, Leo is a perfect blend of playful and loving. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, though he would be just as happy as your one-and-only. Leo loves cats a little too much, so a feline-free home would be ideal. He adores the dog-savvy children in his foster home and loves playing with them outside, but he might be overwhelmed by very small children who are not as gentle. Leo is a true cuddle bug who thrives on companionship, so he would prefer a home where someone is around more often than not. He is house-trained and does well in a crate and on a leash. If you're looking for a loyal friend to share your life with, Leo may just be the perfect match for you! Leo is neutered, up-to-date on shots, and just underwent a full dental. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
