Looking Glass Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) virtual rescue, using a network of dedicated fosters throughout the Northeast to care for our animals until adoption. You may be required to travel if approved for adoption. Meet Apollo! Apollo is the newest member of the Looking Glass family, rescued from a nearby shelter which he was reluctant to leave knowing a few of the dogs he arrived with were still there, left behind. Apollo is now with a loving foster and dreaming of a home of his very own. Apollo is described by his foster as a handsome, medium sized dog with an adorable personality, a bit timid at first but warms quickly to people, dogs, and is even great with the foster's chicken! He is a well-adjusted and loving dog who really enjoys affection in return. Apollo is a playful and energetic dog who enjoys a good romp around the yard and would love another dog to play with. Because Apollo's start to life did not include the basic training needed by all young puppies, he will need the usual training, including basic commands, manners, and house training. Apollo is a smart little guy, and we believe he will catch on quickly! Apollo will make a great companion for any family or individual willing to spend some time training him and providing for his active nature. Apollo does have some interesting quirks - he's confused by the idea of eating out of a bowl, finds toys to be for destroying rather than playing, and is a playful nipper when happy and excited, all trainable behaviors indicative of a dog not yet taught how to be a good family member. Apollo simply needs the right family/individual to come along and give him the love and training he deserves - might that be you?? **Available for meet and greet!** Applications can be submitted through lgarinc/adoption-application/. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
