Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Piper is about a year and 10 months old. She is a sweet little 7-8 lb chihuahua. In her short life she has had two homes. The last one loved her dearly but wanted a better life for her. Piper is a bit of a nervous girl when it comes to loud noises or even a truck driving by her while in the car. She does bark at strangers and takes a little time to warm up but when she does she wants to be right in your arms. She is good with other dogs and loves a game of chase. Piper loves her squeaky toys and chews. She is doing great on housetraining but since she is so little she needs a home that can take her out frequently. Piper will need a home that can work on her socialization training. Having another dog will help with that and of course taking her to training classes. Piper would love to snuggle under a blanket with you. To help pay for vet bills and care (transportation, food, toys, etc..) a $250 donation is requested at the time of adoption. All of our adoptions are contingent upon an approved application, home visit, reference check, obedience training agreement, and signing of adoption contract. All our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Our dogs are companion animals that live indoors as part of your family. Please do not apply if your plan is to have them as outside dogs, garage dogs, porch dogs or outside kennel dogs. We do not ship dogs. All of our dogs are in private foster homes. We are not a shelter with hours. A visit can be arranged after an adoption questionnaire has been filled out and sent in. Please try to email first. We are all volunteers that work so we can not easily take or make phone calls.

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
