Description
Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Pinky is estimated at 1 year old. She is only 10-11 pounds. Pinky really is a sweetheart. She has quickly picked up the flow of things from the dogs in her foster home. She learned to use the doggy door and potty outside in 2-3 days time. Pinky is good with kids and other dogs. She hasn't been tested with cats, so we don't know about them. She sleeps all night with the other dogs in the foster home. She loves squeakers and being in your lap, Pinky is a true velcro dog and follows her foster Mom everywhere! She will snuggle with everyone. She favors her foster Mom but cuddles with her foster Dad and rolls over for belly scratches. She's playful, but naps with the other dogs in the home when they nap. She likes having playmates as she has taken to one of the female dachshunds in her foster home and does zoomies with her. Crate training is in progress. Her perfect home would be one that had another fun loving dog in the home and preferably someone home more often than not. Please see FAQs for current adoption fees. Overview:
The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
