Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Rat Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Dottie is a very sweet, high-energy puppy-like young dog. We should have named her Rascal because she is a little Rascal. She loves to play, loves to go on walks, and explore. She is looking for a family that is up for a whirlwind adventure. Energy Level? High House-trained? We are working on it Describe how they are on leash? She is learning leash manners and catching on Describe how they are with other dogs? Good with other dogs overall. She may be shy when meeting new dogs, but once she's comfortable, she enjoys playing. She can be protective of her food, so meals should be fed separately. She may also show reactivity when confined in her crate, but this typically subsides once she's out and has a chance to interact appropriately. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they? Limited exposure to cats so far, but she has done well with the interactions she's had. Based on her temperament, we think she may do well in a home with cats, but slow, supervised introductions are recommended. Commands they know? She is learning to take treats gently and is making good progress. She hasn't mastered any basic cues and would benefit from positive reinforcement training. What are their favorite things? Dottie loves to play, eat, enjoy treats, snuggle, and explore. She also loves her toys and is always happy to entertain herself with a favorite toy. What do they need to work on? She will benefit from basic training to help her greet people politely without jumping, wait patiently instead of barking for treats or food, and finish her potty training. She also needs to learn that she doesn't need to guard or worry about sharing her food and toys. With consistency, positive reinforcement, and a little patience, Dottie has all the makings of a wonderful companion. How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone? Dottie has been left a full workday with the resident dog and access through the doggie door, which she learned on the first day. Where do they sleep? Dottie is crate trained; however, she has been sleeping in an xpen. What is their ideal home? Dottie would do best with another playful dog who can match her energy and enjoy romping around with her. She is a very smart girl who will thrive with basic training and is likely to learn quickly. She will benefit from a family that is committed to working with her to help her feel safe and understand that no one is going to take her resources away, and who is up for puppy-proofing and working on mouthy puppy behaviors so they don't become lasting habits. Dottie is an active dog who would enjoy daily walks, playtime, and a securely fenced yard where she can run and explore. She is incredibly sweet and affectionate, has so much love to give, and will make an amazing companion. The Adoption fee is $325. Breed overview
Overview:
The Rat-Cha, a charming crossbreed between the Chihuahua and Rat Terrier, offers a spirited companion with a unique blend of its parent breeds' best traits. Originating from the desire to combine the Chihuahua's affectionate nature with the Rat Terrier's intelligence and robustness, this hybrid is gaining popularity. Physically, Rat-Chas are typically small to medium-sized, weighing between 6 and 15 pounds, with a short, easy-to-care-for coat that can vary widely in color. They often possess expressive eyes and a sturdy build, reflecting their terrier lineage. Temperamentally, they are known for being alert, playful, and loyal, often forming strong bonds with their families. While they can be vocal, early socialization and training can mitigate this. Their adaptable size makes them well-suited for both apartment living and homes with yards, and they can be wonderful additions to active families, though supervision is wise with very young children due to their smaller stature. Health-wise, like many small breeds, they can be prone to dental issues and patellar luxation, so regular vet check-ups are important.
