Description
Dog Breed: Brittany (medium coat). Dixie is a purebred female brittany, approximately 3 years old, who is looking for her forever home. She weighs about 36 pounds, and is a total sweetheart and very smart. Dixie was surrendered to a shelter, due to her former owner not having time for her. She was previously a hunting dog, but it appears she may be gun shy. However, she still has great hunting instinct. Luckily, NBRAN stepped in and pulled her out of the shelter. She was heartworm positive, but has now completed treatment. Dixie is full of energy and loves to RUN! She will need a large fenced in yard, so she can do what she loves the most. She prefers to spend a lot of her time outside running and exploring the yard for critters. She also loves to just lay outside and watch the world go by. She enjoys cuddling on the couch with her humans. She is the perfect blend of a ball of energy and a calm cuddle bug. There needs to be another dog in the house, as that seems to comfort her and she looks to them for guidance. She loves to play, but is a little shy at first. Loud sudden noises or quick movements toward her make her a little nervous. She is a great car rider, is crate trained and housebroken. She knows her name, listens well and comes when called. She responds to "whoa" and loves "go hunt". She also understands "no". She is a typical brittany on a leash and will pull. She wants to follow her nose. She has not been around cats or kids, since she's been in foster care. However, given her hunting instinct, she would probably not do best with cats. And with her initial shyness, especially around loud noises, older kids would be best. Dixie is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. She is located in SC and is available for transport up to 1400 miles, with the adopter driving the last 100 miles. Her adoption fee is $400 to help offset some of her medical expenses. If you're interested in giving Dixie a forever home, please submit an adoption application to .nbran and mention her name. For any further questions, please contact jessicathesouthernway

Overview:
The Brittany is a beloved and versatile gun dog, originating from the Brittany province of France in the 17th century. These medium-sized dogs are instantly recognizable by their athletic build, often appearing leggy and agile, with a dense, flat or wavy coat that comes in orange and white, or liver and white. Their intelligent and eager-to-please nature makes them incredibly trainable and responsive. Temperamentally, Brittanys are known for being friendly, energetic, and affectionate, making them excellent companions for active families. While their moderate size might suggest apartment living, their high energy levels and need for regular exercise mean they thrive best in homes with a yard or access to plenty of outdoor space. Generally a healthy breed, they can be predisposed to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and sometimes epilepsy, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. With proper training and socialization, a Brittany will undoubtedly enrich the lives of its devoted family.
