Description

Dog Breed: Beagle. Adoption Fee: $300.00. Bugsey is a total sweetheart who wants to please and has good manners. He is super affectionate, loves pats, belly rubs, and ear skritches and gives tiny kisses. He likes other dogs, but does tend to want all the attention, although not at all aggressive about it. Bugsey ignores cats unless they swat at him, and then he will just bark at them. Supervising in the kitchen is definitely in his skill set. He doesn't get in the way and doesn't beg for food. He just wants to watch and be involved with his humans. Also, like all beagles, he will stare patiently, unblinking, while his people eat for a long as food is present. When it is time for treats though, Bugsey will wait his turn and is gentle taking them. He greets you when you get home with enthusiasm, LOTS of tail wagging, and again, those little kisses. His personality is self confident and not shy and his energy level is moderate. House training has gone wonderfully with only one peeing accident when he first arrived. Bugsy sleeps in a dog bed in his foster parent's bedroom. When left alone he doesn't stress, bark, or whine, and he is crated... just to be sure there are no issues with the cats. He has been crated for up to 6 hours. He does enjoy being outside and will often just curl up on a patio chair rather than demand to be let back in. Bugsey's leash walking skills are quite good -- no pulling and not much criss-crossing. We believe Bugsey will do best in a home where he can lots of affection and a decent amount of activity. He is heartworm negative, all of his vetting has now been completed and he is ready for a sleepover!

Overview:

The Beagle is a beloved scent hound with a rich history, originally bred in England for hunting hare and rabbit. Their most recognizable physical traits include a sturdy, compact build, adorable floppy ears, and soulful brown or hazel eyes. Beagles typically weigh between 18-30 pounds and stand 13-16 inches tall, featuring a smooth, dense coat that comes in a variety of tri-color or bi-color patterns. In terms of temperament, they are known for being exceptionally friendly, curious, and outgoing, making them wonderful companions for families with children and other pets. However, their strong prey drive and inclination to follow interesting scents mean they require a securely fenced yard and consistent leash training. While adaptable, their need for exercise and tendency to vocalize (howl!) makes them less ideal for small apartment living unless daily walks and mental stimulation are guaranteed. Regarding health, Beagles can be prone to certain conditions like hip dysplasia, epilepsy, and intervertebral disc disease, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important.
