Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Tiny Warrior Princess! Meet Xena! Xena is a 4.5-year-old terrier mix whose name means "Princess Warrior," and it couldn't fit her better. She survived three weeks alone on the busy East Side of San Jose, proving just how smart, resilient, and resourceful she is. But beneath that brave exterior is a sweet girl who simply wants to love and be loved. Xena takes a little time to trust new people, but once she feels safe, her true personality shines. She is incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than cuddles, kisses, and snuggling close to her person. She's also playful and delightfully goofy—she gets so excited that she's been known to jump onto my shoulders while I'm sitting on the couch! She can even catch treats in midair like a pro. Xena is fiercely loyal and loves following her person from room to room. On walks, she'll often look to you for reassurance when something feels scary, making your bond even stronger. Xena's Favorite Things: Walks and playtime—they make her whole body wiggle with excitement...Treats, especially after going potty outside. She proudly runs over as if to say, "Look what I did!"...Cuddles, kisses, puzzle toys, and her Kong. Xena is looking for a patient adopter who will give her the time she needs to feel safe. Once you earn her trust, you'll gain an incredibly loving, loyal, silly, and devoted best friend.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
