Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). MEET STUART! Stuart is a puzzle of a dog waiting for the right person to help him settle into his forever home. He was found as a stray in a nearby city so we don't know anything about his background. Here at the shelter, he has shown us many sides of his personality - the shy trembling little dog, the dog who loves walks, the dog who loves to cuddle with a smaller dog, and the picky eater who light up for roast chicken. Stuart doesn't like to be handled so we won't be sending him to a home with children. With a patient loving family, we believe that Stuart can live his best life. Come to Dedham to meet Stuart! Stuart is currently up to date on vaccinations and flea and tick preventative, has been spayed, microchipped and examined by our vet team. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY. However, we will be unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
