Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Our Queen was queen for a day and got to go on a day trip! Here is how she did: She didn't seem to know how to get into a car! There was no fear and she didn't mind getting lifted into the back seat. She jumped out just fine. My husband came to meet Queen in the yard and she ignored him at first. Eventually he held still and crouched low enough that she approached him for a scratch. She's not afraid of any people, including my teens yelling at my dog to stop barking at her, but doesn't quite know how to interact with people yet. I took Queen to meet my outdoor chickens and my foster kittens. She exhibited zero prey drive, even when my adult cat, who guards the kittens, bolted from the room. Chickens and kittens were alert, but unafraid when Queen ambled by...she didn't even sniff their direction. They were just part of her environment. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
