Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $300. Hello potential new friends! My name is Dougy and after spending a while with my fosters, I am ready to find my forever home! About Me: I am a 6 month old, male, Cattle dog mix. I am a stocky boy, weighing in at 45 lbs. I love to bounce around and play with toys. Chase is my favorite game. I am a very brave pup and even when some things scare me, I recover quickly and investigate. I love other dogs but can be a little reserved at first. Slow introductions are best. I am shy with new people but once I get to know you, I am a sweet and affectionate boy. I am mostly polite with kitties but can be a bit much at times, I just want to play! I could learn to ignore a cat if they taught boundaries. I love playing with kids once I get to know them, they can be so fun! Dog savvy kids would be best because I can be skittish at first. The kennel isn’t my favorite place but I am willing to take a nap in there as long as my needs are met. I sleep all night without a peep. I am doing great on potty training and have had no accidents in my crate or inside the house. I should do well if kept on a schedule. I am a very good walker and like to go for walks when it's cool outside. I love spending time outside, especially if I have a stick to chew. I do need to learn a few manners but my fosters are working on that. With your help I'll grow to be a perfect gentleman. I listen well to corrections. My Ideal Family: I would love to have a family who is active. I have puppy energy and even though I love to nap in my kennel, I love to play and run even more. It is important my new family is patient with me while I adjust but also gives me the attention I need. A family willing to continue training would be amazing. A family with dog experience, even better if they have experience with skittish dogs. I would love to have another dog in my new home but will do okay as a single dog as well. Things to Remember. I can be very reserved and skittish at first. (This is most likely due to being under socialized at the shelter.) This means that I will need to have a family who is dedicated to socializing me properly and doing training so that I can grow to become the best dog I can be. I am 100% worth all of it and I will show you just how great I can be. If I sound like a great fit for you, apply to meet me at bit.ly/RRAdoptionApplication

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
