Dog Breed: Miniature Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Rome – the Schnauzer mix. Rome came to the Shelter as an owner surrender after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Rome is an active girl who needs an adopter who will meet her day to day mental and physical needs through play, positive reinforcement training and walks. Rome would thrive in a home that is free of small animals such as cats and birds as she has a bit of a prey drive. In her previous home, she was described as house trained and used a doggy door to go out and potty. Rome knows “sit” and “paw” (aka shake) and would love to keep bond with her new family and learn new tricks. Rome has not lived with another dog but has enjoyed interacting with them. She sometimes comes on a little strong and can have a tactile play style. Not every dog will appreciate Rome’s approach but with the right fit – Rome may enjoy a canine play buddy in the home to zoom and romp with. Any resident dogs should meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them
