Description
Dog Breed: Shih Tzu. McGee & Sadie – A Bonded Pair Looking for Their Fresh Start McGee and Sadie are a devoted sibling pair who came to us after their owner experienced medical challenges and could no longer care for them. When they arrived, both were very matted, but it was clear they had been deeply loved. Thanks to the wonderful team at Shaggy Paws Grooming, these two now have a fresh new look to match the fresh new chapter they’re ready to begin. McGee is an 8‑year‑old Shih Tzu with a calm, reserved nature. He likes to take his time getting to know new people, but once he feels safe, he becomes a total lap dog. Having his sister nearby helps him warm up even faster — she’s his comfort and confidence. Sadie, his 7‑year‑old sister, is the opposite in all the best ways: lively, wiggly, and always ready to play. She loves rolling in the grass, greeting you with immediate kisses, and keeping life fun and upbeat. Her joyful energy reassures McGee, and his gentle presence helps her settle — they truly balance each other. This pair has done well with other dogs who are respectful of smaller pups, and they showed no reaction to our kitten room, making them a good fit for homes with calm dogs or cats. They do not enjoy being crated and will thrive with someone who is home more often than not. McGee and Sadie are looking for a family who can give them stability, patience, and love — together. If you’re ready to welcome a bonded pair who bring both serenity and sunshine, these two will fill your home with warmth from day one. McGee & Sadie's adoption fee is $150, which helps support their medical care and preparation for adoption. Please note: All of our animals are spayed/neutered and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Each pet also receives a behavioral assessment to help us better understand the type of home they may thrive in. However, it’s important to remember that the results may not fully reflect an animal’s true personality, as shelter and foster environments can be stressful. If you are interested in meeting any of our animals, we encourage you to first visit our website and submit an adoption application: .acskc/adopt-1 Once your adoption application has been approved, we will call you to set up an appointment to meet with the pet! We welcome adopters from out of state to apply! _ When it comes to our pets, we're all-inclusive! A.K.A.: Lion Dog, Chrysanthemum Dog, Foo Dog, Xi Shi dog, Tibetan Temple Dog, Chinese Imperial Dog, Lhasa Lion Dog, Shitzu, Schipperke, Tzu, Shih Tzu Kou, Kou
Overview:
The Shih Tzu, affectionately known as the "lion dog," boasts an ancient and regal lineage, originating from the Tibetan plateau and further refined in imperial China. These charming canines are easily recognized by their striking appearance: a small, sturdy build, a distinctive undershot jaw, and a long, flowing double coat that often requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Temperamentally, Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate, outgoing, and playful companions, making them wonderfully suitable for a variety of households. Their adaptable and generally good-natured disposition means they often thrive in families with children and are particularly well-suited for apartment living due to their modest exercise requirements. While generally robust, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific health concerns, including respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic, or "smushed" face), eye conditions, and luxating patella. Despite these considerations, a Shih Tzu typically brings immense joy and companionship to their devoted owners.
