If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Luna is a 10 week old female Terrier mix who weighs in at 5 pounds. This pup's adoption fee is $500. If you are still interested, please read more below. Meet Luna! Luna is a sweet pup with tons of puppy energy. She is learning potty training and basic commands but will need plenty of practice! She loves to cuddle, play with her litter mate and foster family's dogs, and isn't afraid to jump and run! Her favorite thing is curling up on a warm towel and taking a long nap. She gets along wonderfully with her foster family’s dogs and would thrive in a home with other dogs but would also be happy being your only pup. This pup is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and is scheduled to be spayed July 17th. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting this pup fill out an online application today! .arf-il/adopt/application/ Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
