Description
Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). MEET CRYSTAL. 3 yr old. Located in Osteen, FL. Meet Crystal Mini Australian Shepherd Mix | Approximately 3 Years Old | Under 20 lbs Crystal's story is one of resilience, second chances, and the incredible power of patience. Crystal spent her entire life with the same owner. When her dad was deployed, he exhausted every option trying to find someone to care for her. With no other choice, he made the heartbreaking decision to surrender her to the shelter. The shelter was a terrifying place for Crystal. Confused, heartbroken, and overwhelmed, she shut down and developed fear-based behaviors. Sadly, those behaviors put her at risk of euthanasia. That's when TLC Animal Rescue stepped in. Thanks to an amazing, experienced foster family who understood that Crystal needed time—not judgment—she was given the chance she deserved. Day by day, she learned that people could be trusted again, and the frightened dog we first met transformed into the happy, loving girl she is today. ❤️ About Crystal Crystal is an affectionate, loyal little dog who forms a strong bond with her people. She may be under 20 pounds, but she's packed with personality, intelligence, and enough energy to keep up with all of your adventures! She loves: Running and exploring Swimming Playing with other dogs Tug toys and interactive play ❤️ Spending time with her people Crystal is: ✔️ Spayed ✔️ Microchipped ✔️ Current on vaccinations ✔️ Heartworm negative ✔️ Potty trained ✔️ Crate trained ✔️ On monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention ✔️ Walks nicely on a leash ✔️ Knows Sit, Stay, Down, and "Go to Bed" (and she's working on "Paw") ✔️ Quiet for the most part—not a barky dog ✔️ Dog friendly ✔️ Cat friendly Crystal has made incredible progress in foster care and is now eating well, living peacefully with other dogs and cats, and enjoying life to the fullest. Because of her breed traits and active personality, herding dog experience is preferred. Crystal will thrive with an adopter who understands intelligent, high-energy breeds and can provide daily exercise, mental stimulation, and continued structure. We are recommending an adult-only home to give Crystal the best opportunity for long-term success. Crystal's life could have ended at the shelter. Instead, she was given a second chance—and she has made the most of it. Now she's ready for her greatest adventure yet: finding a family to call her own. ❤️ Could Crystal be your perfect adventure buddy?

Overview:
The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
