Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. Bluey greets the world with her whole heart! At 35 pounds and three years old, this sweet southern girl is curious, affectionate, endlessly enthusiastic, and always ready for her next adventure. She came to PAW from South Carolina and is enjoying every new sight, sound, and smell she's discovering here in Maryland. Bluey loves getting out for walks, where she happily investigates the neighborhood one sniff at a time. She's excited to meet new people, interested in other dogs, and is still polishing her leash manners—sometimes weaving around your feet or bursting into a happy trot when something catches her attention. She's smart, treat-motivated, and eager to learn, making her a wonderful candidate for continued training. With her soft coat, adorable little bobtail, and shorter legs, Bluey is as cute as she is lovable. She adores pets, ear rubs, hugs, and kisses, and she's happiest when she has people and adventures to share them with. She'd make a wonderful walking or hiking companion for someone ready to help this bright, energetic girl continue learning about the world. PAW adopts in Maryland, DC, northern VA, and southern PA.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
