Description
Dog Breed: Scottish Terrier Scottie / Mixed. It’s our pleasure to introduce Samantha (fka Cinderella)! Sam is a sweet and stoic 21-pound, 5 ½ year old Scottish Terrier, who originally came to Paws Across Pittsburgh late in 2025 as a puppy mill rescue. Due to her past struggles, it’s been challenging for her to feel comfortable and settle into a forever home. Sam has a gentle spirit and has warmed up to other dogs in her foster home. Although apprehensive, Sam is learning from them how to accept treats, pets, and love from people. She requires a home with a confident dog friend to continue leading the way, teach her how to socialize, and show her there are patient and kind-hearted humans in the world. Because of her background and to keep her safe, Sam requires a fenced in yard, which also helps her get her daily zoomies out. Mealtimes and treats are Sam’s absolute favorites, and she will hop up and down for both! She is crate and pee pad trained and is working on house breaking. Her foster friends have shown her how to use the doggie door and then proudly run in to accept her reward for doing her business outside. She is also working on leash training and is coming along magnificently! Sam is anxious and nervous when approached but will allow a calm hand to pet her and even give a hug or kiss. She quietly tolerates being brushed and may even enjoy it a little. This Scottie Girl needs a soft place to land and a supportive, understanding adopter who finds joy in celebrating the small victories of life’s journey. She does like her space but will also make a wonderful companion in a peaceful home. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
