Dog Breed: Shepherd / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Nyx, a happy 6-month-old Shepherd mix puppy with a playful spirit and a whole lot of love to give. This sweet girl is ready to find a family of her own to grow up with and love forever. Like most puppies her age, Nyx is full of curiosity and fun-loving energy. She enjoys playtime, exploring the world around her, and making new friends wherever she goes. Nyx has a sleek black coat with beautiful tan markings on her legs, face, and eyebrows. Her expressive brown eyes and oversized ears, give her a playful, curious look that is impossible to resist. At 5 months old and 42 pounds, we can only estimate her adult size, but we believe she will likely grow into a large dog, weighing somewhere over 60 pounds when fully grown. Nyx gets along well with other dogs and children. She has not yet met any cats since coming into rescue, so her compatibility with them is currently unknown. Like any young puppy, she is still learning all the important basics of house, crate and leash training and will thrive with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement as she grows. With the right family by her side, she is sure to blossom into a loyal, loving companion. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
