Description
Dog Breed: Shih Tzu. Meet Alfred, the perfect little gentleman! Alfred is a 3-year-old Shih Tzu with a calm, easygoing personality that's hard not to love. He's crate trained, house trained, and gets along wonderfully with both dogs and cats. If you're looking for a quiet companion who enjoys a relaxed lifestyle, Alfred may be your perfect match. When Alfred came into our care, he was covered in fleas and had significant hair loss. While treatment has helped him feel much more comfortable, much of his hair loss is the result of untreated allergies—a condition that is unfortunately common in Shih Tzus. He has already received an allergy injection that has greatly reduced his itching and improved his comfort. Potential adopters should be aware that managing Alfred's allergies may require ongoing veterinary care and could become a recurring expense. Despite this, Alfred remains a happy, affectionate little dog who deserves a loving home where he can continue to thrive. Could Alfred be the missing piece in your family?

Okie Pet Rescue
okiepetrescuegmail okiepetrescue
An application must be completed and approved after a comprehensive review. Overview:
The Shih Tzu, affectionately known as the "lion dog," boasts an ancient and regal lineage, originating from the Tibetan plateau and further refined in imperial China. These charming canines are easily recognized by their striking appearance: a small, sturdy build, a distinctive undershot jaw, and a long, flowing double coat that often requires regular grooming to prevent matting. Temperamentally, Shih Tzus are renowned for being affectionate, outgoing, and playful companions, making them wonderfully suitable for a variety of households. Their adaptable and generally good-natured disposition means they often thrive in families with children and are particularly well-suited for apartment living due to their modest exercise requirements. While generally robust, potential owners should be aware of common breed-specific health concerns, including respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic, or "smushed" face), eye conditions, and luxating patella. Despite these considerations, a Shih Tzu typically brings immense joy and companionship to their devoted owners.
