Foster Home Feedback 7/15/2026 Foster Feedback: Nitro is approximately 9 months old and is an absolute lover! He has plenty of happy puppy energy, but nothing makes him happier than settling in for a good snooze with his humans. Nitro takes napping very seriously and is an excellent cuddle buddy. Nitro does well with other dogs and adjusts his play style appropriately. He happily plays with our 16-pound corgi mix while also taking cues from our older dogs when they are not interested in joining the fun. Nitro currently lives with two cats. While he finds them interesting, he has been a respectful gentleman with them so far. He also shares his home with older children and cannot get enough of their attention. Like many young dogs, Nitro can become a little mouthy when excited, so he may not be the best match for very young children while he continues working on his puppy manners. Nitro is doing wonderfully with potty training. He had only a few isolated accidents during his transition into his foster home and has otherwise been very reliable. Nitro sleeps in his kennel overnight and does very well. He may fuss or whine briefly when first settling in, but then sleeps quietly through the night. Because his foster works from home, Nitro has not had many opportunities to spend extended periods alone yet, so his foster family is still learning how he handles longer absences. Nitro is generally easy and enjoyable to walk on leash. He may bark at other dogs occasionally, but overall he is manageable and walks nicely. He knows his name, sit, down, and has excellent recall. His house manners are impressive for his age—he chews appropriately on his toys, does very little jumping, and has not shown any resource guarding. Nitro is very food motivated, which makes training fun and rewarding. He rides well in the car and has been calm and comfortable during trips. His foster family would describe him as a medium-energy dog. He enjoys activity and would benefit from a daily walk and playtime, but he is not over-the-top and settles beautifully afterward. This adventurous boy loves being included! Nitro has enjoyed camping, relaxing on the pontoon, attending baseball games with his foster siblings, and simply hanging out wherever his people are. Nitro does have a surprisingly big-boy bark when he feels the need to use it, but most of the time he is all smiles, snuggles, and happy puppy enthusiasm. Nitro did very well at today’s adoption event! He was friendly, affectionate, and happy to meet everyone who approached him. He especially enjoyed the attention from several children and remained patient and appropriate even when they were very enthusiastic and hands-on with him. He consistently does well with people and loves being part of the action. Nitro can become vocal and excited when he sees other dogs, particularly in busy environments. He is generally easy to redirect with distance and treats, and he has demonstrated appropriate play with dogs in his foster home. He would benefit from continued work on calm greetings and disengaging around dogs. To view additional dogs available for adoption, please see our website: .4luvofdog

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
