Description
Dog Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Cricket, the adolescent mixed breed. We are guessing that she is some sort of medium sized Schnauzer mix but we are not entirely sure. Cricket arrived to the Shelter as a stray so we donât know about her life before the Shelter. A good Samaritan was coming through the Santa Cruz mountains and found this gal in the middle of the road. The good sam brought her to the Shelter for safety. Unable to find her guardians and her stray hold complete, Cricket is now available for adoption. Staff have observed that she is curious and social but a little timid in the busy Shelter environment. Cricket would thrive with a decompression period in her adoptive home â keeping things on a schedule, simple and quiet while she gets to know her people and new life.. before any big parties or outings. Cricket has met other dogs and coexisted. A home with another dog may be a fit after a meet ân greet at the Shelter. We do not have any history of Cricket with cats or children. Cricket is available for pre-adoption. Come meet her, fall in love and take her home after her spay surgery. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
