Stay tuned to learn more about me. *********************************************************************** MAD Rescue is an official 501c3 foster based rescue organization and does not have a physical location. While our mailing address is in Michigan, the majority of our dogs are not located in the state of Michigan. The physical location of each our our dogs is posted with the name of the pet in the title area. For transport, if you reside within 4 hours of the pet's fostered location, please be prepared to pick the pet up. For further distances, there is limited transport assistance available, however the applicant will be required to drive no less than half of the total distance. The basic information that we have available is in our posting, but sometimes fosters will post updates on the MAD Rescue Facebook page as well, .facebook/groups/malinoisanddutchshepherdrescueinc. If you would like to further inquire on this animal, please fill out this application. Overview:
The Hollandse Herdershond, or Dutch Shepherd, is a versatile and intelligent breed originating from the Netherlands, where they were traditionally used by shepherds and farmers for herding and guarding livestock. Physically, they are a medium-sized dog with a powerful, muscular build, typically weighing between 50-70 pounds and standing 21-25 inches tall. Their coats come in three varieties: short-haired, long-haired, and wire-haired, all displaying the breed's distinctive brindle pattern in shades of gold or silver. Temperamentally, Dutch Shepherds are known for their strong work ethic, loyalty, and unwavering devotion to their families. They are highly trainable and excel in various dog sports like obedience, agility, and protection work. While generally good with children, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them better suited for active families with experience in dog ownership, rather than first-time owners or those in apartment settings. Like many active breeds, they can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term health.
