Description

Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Nose Out the Window, Heart Full of Joy Meet Shadow—the adventure buddy who's always ready to hit the road! This sweet, energetic girl was recently returned for having `too much` energy, but here's the secret: Shadow doesn't have too much energy...she just needs the right outlet for it. A good walk, a hike, or an active family is all it takes for this happy girl to shine. Shadow is wonderful on leash, rides like a perfect passenger in the car, and loves cruising with the windows down, nose in the breeze. During a recent Barks 'n Rec outing, she was calm, quiet, and so well behaved that she barely barked at all—a far cry from her kennel excitement. She's smart, too! Shadow knows `sit,` `paw,` and `down`...though she occasionally responds to `sit` with an adorable little head shake, as if she's politely negotiating the request. (Classic Husky.) She's even figured out how to open doors and was recently caught letting her kennel mate out! Shadow is friendly with other dogs and may get a little excited because she'd really like to stop and say hello. Give Shadow the exercise she craves, and you'll discover an affectionate, funny, and loyal best friend who's always up for the next adventure. Shadow has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in her new home. She's also sharing her shelter suite with a friend she met at the shelter. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out her playgroup video here: To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet and greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. We are located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. I look forward to getting to know you!

Siberian Husky

A.K.A.: Husky, Arctic Husky, Chukcha, Chukchi, Chukchi Sled Dog, Sibe, Sibes, Sled Dog, Snow Dog
Overview:

The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
