Tender-hearted Corgi looking for her flock SPRUCE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Spruce Best Guess for Breed: Corgi mix Best Guess for Age: 5 years as of July 2026. SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 13.2 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: the shelter, Spruce needs a foster and a forever home. Special adoption considerations: Spruce was rescued from a hoarding situation in South Carolina. She has not been well socialized with new people and has lived her whole life with other dogs. New noises, cars, bikes, and other things may create fear and anxiety. She will need a patient adopter who can give her time to come out of her shell and learn that the world is a wonderful and welcoming place. Spruce is Looking For: Spruce’s ideal home is calm, patient, and predictable. She thrives with gentle people who understand that confidence grows slowly and that love doesn’t need to be loud to be real. She would do best in a home without small children, and she will enjoy the company of another kind, steady dog who can show her the ropes. Spruce needs someone who will let her be herself, celebrate her small victories, and offer reassurance when the world feels big. Corgis were bred to be herding dogs and Spruce will want the chance to be outdoors and stretch her little legs. Dog parks visits and doggie daycare will offer her both exercise and socialization with other canines, just the things Spruce can't get enough of. Training will help Spruce adjust to her new world so start early. What My Foster Says About Me: We will update as soon as Spruce spends some time with a foster. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
