Pickles is not currently up for adoption at our shelter - instead we are helping her owner, Zulema, by listing her as a Courtesy Listing in hopes we can help her find someone that will welcome Pickles into their home! Zulema's contact info is down below for anyone potentially interested. Meet Pickles!! She is a spirited four-year-old Pembroke Welsh Corgi with a big personality and an even bigger heart. She's spent her whole life in a loving family home and is just as happy on a long walk or chasing a ball as she is curled up quietly in her favorite corner. Pickle knows her basic commands, walks well on a leash, is fully potty and kennel trained, and is an eager, quick learner who loves a good training session. She's in excellent overall health, with no major medical concerns, just the occasional mild eye irritation that clears up quickly with drops. She's also a delightfully enthusiastic eater who enjoys everything from roast chicken to blueberries to a good frozen lick mat. Pickles currently lives with two other dogs, and while she gets along wonderfully with one, she's developed resource guarding tendencies with the other that have made a multi-dog household a challenge. Because of this, we believe Pickles would do best as the only dog in her new home, or carefully matched with a calm, confident companion after a proper introduction period. She's a loyal, loving girl who thrives with people who can give her focused attention, consistent routines, and the structure she needs to feel secure. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
