Description
Dog Breed: Doberman Pinscher (medium coat). MEET ANUBIS! This handsome guy is Anubis, a 4yo 100+lb Doberman who is ready to meet his new best friend! Anubis is an active, friendly guy who LOVES being around his humans, so much so that he is not afraid to let you know how much he misses you with his voice. For this reason, he would not be the best fit for an apartment and is hoping for a family with someone home more often than not. He is not aware of just how big or strong he is, so would do best in a home with kids in their teens and up that won't get knocked down when he gets excited. He enjoys the company of other dogs, but again is not aware of just how big he is so needs a dog who can keep up with his playstyle. He has many of his basic manners down and walks nicely on leash with a front-clip harness. He is very affectionate with his friends. If you are interested in meeting this big, sweet boy, stop by our Dedham shelter! My friends describe me as: Friendly, smart, vocal Anubis is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been spayed/neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY however, we are unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. The Doberman Pinscher is a sleek and powerful breed originating from Germany in the late 19th century, specifically developed by Karl Friedrich Louis Dobermann for protection. Known for their striking, athletic build, Dobermans typically possess a short, glossy coat that comes in black, red, blue, or fawn, often with rust-colored markings. Their temperament is a fascinating blend of loyalty, intelligence, and alertness, making them exceptional guardians and devoted companions. While highly trainable and eager to please, they require early socialization and consistent training to channel their energy and protectiveness appropriately. Dobermans can thrive in active families who can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation, but their need for space and activity generally makes them less suitable for small apartment living unless exceptionally well-exercised. Regarding health, they are predisposed to certain conditions like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Von Willebrand's Disease, and Wobbler Syndrome, so responsible breeding and veterinary care are paramount.
