At just 12 weeks old (as of midAugust 2026), this little Shepherd mix has already fought battles no puppy should ever face. Found as a stray with an open, infected wound and a lifethreatening virus, she arrived scared, hurting, and desperately in need of help. But even in her weakest moments, Kyli showed us who she truly is — a brave, bright, heartmelting little girl with an adorable face and a spirit that refuses to dim. Now thriving in her foster home, Kyli is having so much fun — especially with her kitty friend, who she absolutely adores. She may be on the smaller side at 3 months old, but don’t let her size fool you. This girl has personality, opinions, and a whole lot of spark. She’s smart, listens well, follows directions, and is VERY foodmotivated, which makes her eager and excited to learn. One of her favorite things in the world is playing ball outside with her foster sister — a fullgrown German Shepherd! Kyli keeps up with her like a champ, showing off her energetic, playful, active nature. She’s sweet, affectionate, and happiest when she’s busy, engaged, and surrounded by people who love her. And the best part? She’s completely crate trained and doing wonderfully with her potty training. Kyli’s story could have ended before it ever began. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
