Description
Dog Breed: Husky (medium coat). 6/17 From Celine Dion's Day Hike: Celine Dion did great on the Chandler bike path today! This is probably too much detail, but here is a recap! (Pictures/video attached!) --- She was very excited in her kennel and a little impatient/mouthy (*super gentle) while I got her suited up. But once we were on the move, she was awesome. Nothing fazed her -- other people, cards, bikes, riding lawn mowers. She couldn't care less. She pulled a little, but not hard. She was just happy to be moving and grooving. And she was very responsive to corrections and good at waiting to cross the street. If left to her own devices, I think she would have liked to be friends with all the other dogs. Every time we saw a dog across the street/coming up she was very attuned to them, and seemed like she wanted to say hi. But she didn't bark or aggressively bolt toward them or anything. She was good to move on when I prompted her. We did some very short stretches of jogging (limited only by my own lack of stamina) and she seemed to enjoy that. I'm sure she would have loved to run faster/longer. We sat outside a cafe for a few minutes and she drank some water. And then at the end of the walk she laid in the grass for a little bit. ( She was much calmer getting undressed when we got back to her kennel, naturally. And she now has a tagged hiking kit if she can come on the Sunday hikes!

Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
