Description
Dog Breed: German Wirehaired Pointer (medium coat). This lovely, sweet, full of energy, girl, was originally relinquished by her owner because they did not have the time to work with /train her. She was then adopted and returned shortly after because the adopters were not willing to go forward with the training that we advised them about. Canela is a typical puppy. She jumps up, chews stuff, plays hard, and chases butterflies when you're trying to have a serious conversation with her. Canela likes other dogs and has made some friends in our dog on dog play groups. She has already been through 2 homes that we know of, so this 3rd one needs to stick. She will need training, she will need you to puppy proof your home, she will need you to take her on multiple walks/runs/hikes, anything to wear down her daily energy. Will she take some work and effort? Yes, absolutely, but she'll be worth it!

Overview:
The German Wirehaired Pointer is a versatile and robust hunting dog originating in Germany during the late 19th century. Developed for its all-around capabilities in the field, this breed possesses a distinctive wirery, weather-resistant coat that protects it from harsh conditions and provides excellent camouflage. Physically, they are medium to large-sized dogs with a strong, athletic build, typically weighing between 50-70 pounds. Their alert and intelligent expression is often framed by a moderate beard and bushy eyebrows. Temperamentally, Wirehairs are known for their loyal, eager-to-please, and energetic nature. They form strong bonds with their families and are generally good with children, making them excellent family companions for active households. However, their high energy levels and strong prey drive mean they are not ideally suited for apartment living unless given significant daily exercise and mental stimulation. While generally a healthy breed with a lifespan of 12-14 years, they can be predisposed to conditions such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as certain eye conditions. Regular grooming is essential to maintain their coat and prevent matting.
