Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Frosty! Ready for a young, but chill addition to your family? Frosty could be your new addition! He loves his crate and routine. He looks to other dogs for reassurance and would do best with at least 1 other dog that is non-reactive and calm while watching the world go by. Frosty is a timid and scaredy dog - he did not come from great beginnings but has made wonderful strides in his foster home. He is around a year old and learning that humans can be safe and that life can be great. He can get overwhelmed in new environment but adjusts easily with a slow, consistent approach. He looks to the dogs he has been living with for reassurance all is good. It is key he isn’t off leash outside of a protected/fenced environment since he usually rolls over and waits for you to come get him rather than returning to his person. Whether out of a fenced yard or in a very large yard where he doesn’t see the fence…he rolls over and waits. His foster parent is working on building his self-confidence and encouraging him to get past the roll-over behavior and instead come for cookies or walk beside them. Frosty is not very comfortable with young children. Their unpredictable movements can scare him. Kids over 12 that are respectful of his timidness will be fine. He is fine with cats and has even been around chickens without any reaction. His ideal home will have children over 12, a fenced yard with no holes since he is narrow and can fit through a 4” hole, continued training using positive reinforcements, an older calm dog (any size) to help him identify comfort in new situations/environments. He warms up quickly to women, but continues to be hesitant and skittish around men if they pay him attention. Frosty loves his crate and routine. He eats and sleeps in his crate. He wants to go into the same crate - sometimes the other dogs will jump into the wrong crate and it really throws him until the human gets the dog into their crate. Ideal home: 1. Another dog in the home that is calm and non-reactive who can give Frosty guidance. 2. Older children (12 and up) that can understand what he needs and why. 3. Cats and chickens okay. 4. Home where there is consistency in day to day life. Routines/predictability are fundamental to him. 5. Crated environment - in car (he might get a bit car sick if fed close to longer car rides) and at home. 6. Not off leash. 7. Continued training to establish basic commands and build self-confidence. Frosty is certainly worth a little extra effort. He is a wonderful boy. He is vaccinated, neutered and chipped. His adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.
