Dog Breed: Boxer (short coat). This is Abby! She is a beautiful 7-year-old brindle Boxer with soulful brown eyes, a sweet, frosted face, and a calm, loving personality. Abby is spayed, current on her vaccines, and is being fostered in Redmond, WA. Abby came into rescue after her previous owner was no longer able to care for her. Although her world changed overnight, Abby settled into foster care remarkably well and has quickly become one of those dogs who makes herself at home wherever she goes. The easiest way to describe Abby is simply…easy. She wakes up when you do, enjoys her morning potty break and breakfast, and then happily spends the rest of the day being part of whatever you’re doing. If you work from home, she’ll curl up nearby while you answer emails. If you’re cooking dinner, she’ll quietly wander into the kitchen to see what you’re up to before finding a comfortable place to lie down. In the evenings, she’s perfectly content relaxing on the couch with her family. Abby is a true Velcro Boxer. She loves being close to her people and will often follow you from room to room, but she’s never demanding about it. She’s just happiest knowing she’s near you. One of Abby’s greatest qualities is how wonderful she is around the house. She is fully house-trained, has had no accidents in her foster home, sleeps peacefully through the night, and has excellent indoor manners. She’s allowed on the furniture and has claimed one section of the couch as “her spot,” where she happily spends much of the day napping. Although she’d probably love to sleep in bed if invited, she understands the rules in her foster home and has never tried to enter the bedroom after being told it’s off-limits. Abby isn’t destructive, doesn’t require constant entertainment, and settles easily while her family goes about their day. She has a predictable routine, enjoys her walks, eats her meals with enthusiasm, and is simply a very comfortable dog to live with. She also enjoys getting out and about. Whether it’s a neighborhood walk, spending time in the park, or running errands to pet-friendly stores like Home Depot, Abby is happy just to be included. She enjoys watching the world around her and politely accepts attention from people who stop to admire her beautiful brindle coat. Since coming into foster care, Abby has made wonderful progress with her leash manners. She initially pulled quite a bit, but she’s responded extremely well to a Wonder Walker/front-clip harness and continues to improve every week. Like many Boxers, she does have a healthy prey drive and gets excited when squirrels, rabbits, or other small animals cross her path. Abby can be startled by sudden loud noises and is particularly nervous around metal grates and storm drains. When something worries her, she looks to her person for reassurance. As her confidence has grown, she’s become noticeably more comfortable exploring new places and navigating busy environments. Mealtime is one of Abby’s favorite parts of the day. Because of her adorable Boxer underbite, she actually eats more comfortably from a flat plate than a traditional dog bowl. She loves food and is very treat motivated, which makes continuing her training both easy and fun. Abby recently had a thorough veterinary examination and impressed everyone at the clinic. Although she was a little unsure at first, she quickly relaxed and ended the visit happily accepting affection from the veterinary staff. Overall, she’s doing very well, with only a couple of small bumps that her veterinarian recommended simply monitoring over time. The thing that makes Abby so special isn’t one particular trick or skill, it’s how peaceful she is to live with. She’s affectionate without being clingy, calm without being lazy, and independent enough to relax on her own while still wanting to share every part of your day. She’s the kind of dog who quietly follows you into the next room, lies at your feet while you work, and reminds you every day how comforting a good dog can be. Abby would do best with someone looking for a true companion rather than a high-energy puppy. She’d love a home where she can join in on everyday life, whether that’s neighborhood walks, weekend outings, relaxing on the couch, or simply keeping you company while you work around the house. Her ideal family will continue building her confidence with patience and kindness, and in return they’ll gain an incredibly loyal best friend.
