Description
Dog Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). MEET GIZMO Gizmo would do best in a very active teen / adult only home, he is very high energy but sometimes does not know when to take breaks and would need a more structured routine! He would enjoy creative ways to get his energy out like long hikes/runs, lots of play time with breaks in-between, and possibly dog sports if you were interested in that route! Examples could be agility or dock diving, although he would likely need to work on his routine and basic training before attempting this if it's something you are looking for. He can be mouthy / jumpy while playing and will need some help working on his manners and is very food motivated , loves to play, and is doing well with and enjoys positive reinforcement training. Gizmo can be dog selective so slow introductions to other dogs are important. Gizmo is currently up to date on all vaccinations, has been neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team. We welcome adopters from NH, RI, CT, and NY however, we are unable to facilitate same day adoptions due to state regulated paperwork requirements. The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
