Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Nyla! She is a sweet, very energetic lady looking for her next home! Nyla has been through several, very difficult transitions in her short life and is looking for a home that is ready to help her succeed at her pace with lots of patience and structure. In her short life she has had the opportunity to practice jumping and using her mouth to communicate her needs, so we are looking for adopters who are invested in long-term training using positive reinforcement to help her learn other ways she can tell us what she wants! She will need a home that can help her get her energy out in a variety of ways and then give her a quiet space to learn how to settle on her own. She has shown us she enjoys playing with dogs with a more rowdy playstyle, and could live with a well-matched dog friend, dog meet on campus required. We also think she could live with a dog-savvy cat starting out completely separate with slow, thoughtful introductions. Kids who can help implement her training plan and give her space to settle in could also be a fit for Nyla! Come on down to our Boston Adoption Center to chat with a staff person to learn more about her!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
