Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Mila was rescued from MDAS after struggling in the shelter environment. She had become very thin because the stress kept her from eating, and she simply wasn’t coping well there. Despite everything she’s been through, Mila is incredibly sweet. She’s a young, high‑energy girl who will benefit from continued training and structure. She had recently given birth to puppies, and her body is still recovering. Mila can be reactive to some dogs, but we’re not yet sure how she’ll be once she’s out of a boarding environment and settled into a secure, loving home. With stability and guidance, we expect her to make good progress. Mila is affectionate, eager, and ready for a fresh start. She just needs a patient adopter who can help her build confidence and continue her training as she blossoms into the wonderful dog she’s meant to be.

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
