Description

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Adopt Millie! She is a good natured, loving, friendly female Great Pyrenees. She is around 6 yrs old and 90 pounds. Millie came from tremendous neglect without consistent food, water, or cover from the elements. She was living alone in a small, outdoor pen filled with junk and was horrendously infested with fleas. Neighbors eventually had to step in to get her out. Despite her previous living situation, she is sweet, well mannered, and has fit right in at her foster home. Millie is incredibly sweet. She is affectionate and will seek out love and pets, will give out the Pyr Paw for more. She loves spooning or resting her head in your lap. She has been good with the few kids with whom she has interacted. She LOVES every person she has met. She is dog friendly. She was raised alone but has discovered the joy of playing with the dogs in her foster home. Millie is gentle, she will play while laying down and rolling over. She will give the dogs Pyr paw to get them to play with her, she will also try to convince them to play by grumbling. She loves being near and laying by the other dogs. She also loves to watch and chase squirrels. She will remember seeing one in a tree and walk right up the the tree the next day looking for them. We haven't cat tested her yet but can if an adopter is interested. She has seen a few cats on walks or at the vet and is very interested, wanting to get closer. Given her gentle sweet nature, we think she would have no problem and be friendly with cats. Millie walks extremely well on the leash. She is very social and wants to greet everyone you come across on walks. She doesn't bark much, usually just during play time or if the other dogs are barking at something she will join in. She is house trained, never had an accident inside. She does not like to be crated but has no need, she does great when home alone. Millie has been making up for the many years of living in isolation. She has nothing but love to give to everyone. Ideally her forever home would have another dog for companionship. Millie is spayed and up to date on vaccines. She is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, SPIN Rescue will provide adopters with monthly medication until she tests negative. Her adoption fee is $250. She is currently in a foster home in DFW area Texas. Out of state adopters are responsible for arranging their own transport. Apply to meet/adopt Millie at .spinrescue

Great Pyrenees

A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:

The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
