Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Temaki Temaki is a social butterfly who absolutely loooooves people! Of all her siblings, she may be the most people-centered, and she is happiest when there are humans nearby to interact with her, play with her, and—most importantly—give her plenty of attention. She’s playful, affectionate, energetic, and definitely not afraid to make her opinions known. Temaki does well with other dogs and loves playing with her siblings. Like the rest of the litter, she could happily spend hours wrestling and playing if her foster family didn’t enforce some much-needed quiet time! She’s also been exposed to larger adult dogs and approaches them with curiosity rather than aggression. A home with another playful dog could be a great way for Temaki to have a buddy and an outlet for all that puppy energy. She has also been wonderful with her foster family’s 2-year-old daughter. Temaki is gentle with her, comfortable being held, and has shown no concerning behavior around children. She’s getting lots of valuable exposure to different people, animals, and everyday household experiences while she’s young. House training is still a work in progress, but Temaki is already showing some promising habits. She does a great job going to the bathroom as soon as she gets outside and will give signs that she’s searching for a potty spot when indoors. A family willing to maintain a consistent schedule and continue rewarding those good choices will help her keep moving in the right direction. Temaki is also just beginning to learn about leash walking. At this point, she and her siblings have decided that leashes are much more fun to chew than to walk on, so her future family should be prepared for some puppy training sessions! She is used to spending time in a puppy pen and having periods during the day without her foster family home, although she’s generally had other dogs with her. Because she’s still teething and learning her house manners, she should continue to be crated or safely confined when unsupervised. She also does well in a carrier. Temaki loves toys, including chew toys and fetch toys, and is perfectly happy to work for pieces of her regular kibble during training. She’s starting to understand coming when called, though she’s still working toward mastering it. One thing her future family should know: Temaki has a voice, and she knows how to use it! She’s the most vocal of her siblings and may bark during playtime or when she wants human attention. She can also bark when she sees or hears something surprising. It’s part of the big, outgoing personality packed into this little puppy. Temaki would thrive with a family who wants an affectionate, people-oriented pup and doesn’t mind a little puppy commentary along the way. She’ll need the usual patience and consistency with house training, leash skills, and other puppy basics, along with lots of opportunities to play and socialize. Give Temaki plenty of attention and a place in the middle of the action, and she’ll happily return the favor with affection, entertainment, and endless puppy joy. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
