Description
Dog Breed: Norfolk Terrier (medium coat). OTHER PETS: Egg Roll has shown great interest in other dogs and undoubtedly loves to play! He can be a bit pushy and high-energy, so another dog that's well socialized and reads signals well and/or able to match him would be his best fit. As always, he will need to meet any dog he may be living with prior to adoption. [Case-by-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn. Egg Roll is full of energy--regardless of who he's meeting--and will need someone that is not only able to keep up with his exercise needs while offering breaks and ample time to rest. [Some Experience] KIDS: Egg Roll has shown mild signs of resource guarding with both food and possessions while at TJO. While not immediately dangerous, improper interaction while this behavior is being observed can lead to bites and other injuries. Trading up (offering something of equal or higher value) is the safest way to remove prized items while teaching dogs they don't have to lose great things. Children have a harder time seeing this so a home with no children will be the best fit for Eggroll. [Adults Only] ACTIVITY LEVEL: As a dog with a decent amount of energy, Egg Roll will do best with various kinds of enrichment and interaction. While walks around the block and playing out in the yard will be a good addition to his day-to-day life, other games or puzzle toys will help to work his mind as well as his body. A combination of mental enrichment and physical exercise is the best way to fully meet a dog's needs. [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete] VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement will help Egg Roll bond with his new family and build confidence while learning new skills and fun tricks. Overview:
The Norfolk Terrier is a small, plucky, and affectionate dog breed originating from East Anglia, England, specifically developed for hunting small vermin. They boast a sturdy, compact build, typically weighing 11-12 pounds and standing 9-10 inches tall. Their distinguishing feature is a harsh, wiry coat, which can be red, wheaten, black and tan, or grizzle, requiring regular hand-stripping to maintain its texture and protective qualities. Renowned for their fearless yet friendly temperament, Norfolk Terriers are intelligent, alert, and surprisingly adaptable. They are generally good with children and other pets, making them excellent family companions, and their relatively small size means they can thrive in apartments, provided they receive sufficient daily exercise and mental stimulation.
