Description
Dog Breed: Flat-coated Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Forever home wanted, meet Amos! One would wonder how an adorable puppy like Amos and his sister Sophie find their way to one of the most overcrowded shelters in LA County! But land there on the busy 4th of July weekend they did. Of course they had no collar, tags or microchip so they sat there for two weeks hoping their family would find them. So it's true, even adorable puppies sitting in an overcrowded shelter are at risk. When we saw Amos and his sister were at risk, we put in the request to bring them into the rescue. Amos and Sophie just joined us on 7/21. They initially went to boarding, but we were able to get them into a foster home. They have other pups to socialize with and a couple of teenagers to play with. They are very social and playful. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
