Description
Dog Breed: Pug / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 620. Meet Doug Chug: A Playful Little Shadow Looking for His Forever Home Doug is a charming one-year-old Chug—a Chihuahua and Pug mix—with a compact 17-pound frame, expressive eyes, and the kind of lovable face that is hard to resist. He has moved beyond the puppy stage, but he still brings plenty of playful energy, curiosity, and joy into every room he enters. This little guy has a big personality. Doug is confident, curious, and people-oriented, with a loyal heart that wants to stay close to his humans. He loves being near people, following along with daily activities, and soaking up affection whenever he can. Simply put, Doug is a true lover boy. Playtime is one of Doug’s favorite things. He loves toys enthusiastically and is always ready for fun—sometimes bouncing from one toy to the next because everything looks exciting. He also enjoys playing fetch and would thrive with someone who can give him short walks, interactive toys, and positive outlets for his playful spirit. And he loves being on the couch like considering it “his place” either playing or napping while a human is nearby. Doug is smart and responsive. He already knows “no” and “sit,” and he listens well with gentle guidance. Like many excited little dogs, he may jump when he sees a person because he wants to be close, so continued positive reinforcement will help him polish his manners. He may whine at first when placed in a kennel, but he settles when told to stop. He will do best in a home that can offer love, structure, and plenty of appropriate chew toys. Doug does like to chew, and if he cannot find a chew toy, he may choose something on the ground instead. Keeping toys nearby and redirecting him kindly will help set him up for success. He is also alert and aware of his surroundings. Doug responds to loud noises, but he recovers quickly, showing a resilient and adaptable nature. With patience, routine, and reassurance, he has all the makings of a wonderful companion. Doug would be a great match for a family, couple, or individual looking for a devoted small dog who wants to be part of everyday life. If you are hoping for a playful best friend, a couch snuggler, and a loyal little shadow, Doug Chug may be the rescue dog you have been waiting for. Doug was found as a stray in a park with his mother and his sister. The finder contacted 4 Lucky Dogs Rescue to help him find a permanent home. Doug is potty trained and enjoys going potties outside. He has had a couple of accidents inside the foster house because of learning the new routine. The adopter will need to continue working with Doug to make sure he understands potties are outside only. The average lifespan for this breed of dog is 15 years; therefore, Doug’s adopter will need to be prepared to keep him for around 14 more years so he will not have to move to a different home again. Doug’s adoption fee is $620. This dog comes microchipped, neutered, up to date on all necessary vaccines/rabies shots, dewormed, and heartworm tested being negative. He is currently being fostered in the Plant City/Tampa Florida area. ----------------- ***We are a foster-based rescue with no shelter or facility to view our dogs, and our address is a mailing address only. Please be patient as we are an all-volunteer rescue team, and our rescue dogs are in various loving foster homes throughout West-Central Florida. As a general rule we try to limit our adoptions to within the state of FL. If interested in one of our dogs, please fill out an application at .4luckydogs, and we will contact you by phone/text if we feel your application is the best fit out of the ones received.***

Breed overview
Overview:
The "Chug," a delightful crossbreed of the Chihuahua and Pug, originated from the desire to combine the best traits of both beloved parent breeds. Physically, Chugs typically inherit a compact build, weighing between 10-20 pounds, with a short, smooth coat that comes in various colors, often displaying the Pug's characteristic wrinkled face and the Chihuahua's expressive eyes. Their temperament is generally a charming mix of the Pug's affectionate and playful nature with the Chihuahua's spirited and loyal disposition, making them wonderful companions. Chugs are highly adaptable, excelling in both apartment living and homes with families, including those with older children, though early socialization is key. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of predispositions to respiratory issues (due to their brachycephalic features), patellar luxation, and eye conditions, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
