Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. 7/26 Please SHARE Otto!!! Otto is a 6-7 year old handsome boy looking for his forever home. At 6-7 years old, he’s long past the puppy stage but still has lots of life left. His former owner did a DNA test which showed he is mixed, with the predominant breed being Australian Cattle Dog. Seems to maybe have some hound in him too. He is NOT high energy. He weighs about 50 pounds. Otto is good with other dogs but has a more dominant personality. He’s fine with kids but gets nervous if they start rough housing or get loud. More about him: He’s afraid of thunder & fireworks, loves to be brushed, walks well on a leash but will pull towards random vehicles (not all but selectively), loves to eat, doesn’t chew or bother household items. House trained. Does not need to be crated. Would like to snuggle up on the couch. Rides well in the car. Otto originally came into rescue in 2022 from a hoarding situation where he was pretty much just roaming around outside, owner had lots of animals. We believe he’d been hit by a car at one point and had a foot injury that was never tended to, but it doesn’t bother him now. We rescued him and he was adopted. Fast forward to This spring-his adopter could no longer keep him due to life changes. He’s been in a foster home since then. They considered keeping him but have decided not to, so we really want to find his forever home. He is neutered and UTD on vaccines. In New England. To apply, please fill out the adoption app: form.jotform/212690945239059 email apps.aasrgmail with any questions. Our typical adoption fee for puppies younger than 6 months old is $400, and for older puppies and adults, the usual fee is $350. This includes microchip, spay/neuter, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormings, flea/tick treatment, and heartworm test (if over 6 months old) as well as heartworm treatment if they test positive. There is a transport fee of $150 per dog, depending on the transporter. We use Pack Leaders Rescue Dog Transport most often, but also use Hearts Transport as well on occasion. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
