Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Meet Duggie! Duggie is a handsome German Shepherd mix who is just over a year old and 60lbs, and ready to find the forever family he's been waiting for. He's a smart, affectionate, and energetic young dog who will truly shine in a loving home that can provide the consistency and structure he deserves. Duggie is housed trained, crate trained, and already knows all of his basic commands. Even better, he absolutely loves learning! Whether it's practicing commands he knows or tackling something new, he's eager to please and highly motivated by both treats and praise. He can be a bit anxious on leash, especially in busy, nosiy environments. Like many young shepherds, Duggie has plently of energy. He loves playing fetch, tug-of-war, and would be an amazing partner for an active family. He gets along well with other dogs who enjoy his playful energy and would likely do best with older childern, simply because his enthusiasm and size might accidentally knock over little ones. He's the kind of dog who would excel in obedience classes or other training activities-----not because he needs fixing, but because he genuinely loves having a job to do and learning alongside his person. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
