Dog Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). scruffy sweetie seeking his humans! CLYDE NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Clyde Best Guess for Breed: Schnauzer mix Best Guess for Age: 5.5 months as of August 2026 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 33 lbs as of 7/27/26; he is still growing! Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Rural shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here! Clyde is Looking For: Hi! I'm Clyde, and I'm looking for my home. I'm no linger a tiny squishy puppy but I'm still a baby and I want what babies want - play time and snuggles! And I'm looking for one where I get to go on lots of adventures with my new humans - long sniffy walks, romps in parks, world exploration! I want to make pup pals along the way! And I'd like to go to dog school too, so I can show how super smart I am. But most of all I want to always be safe and loved, to know where I belong. I have so much love and loyalty to give. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
