Description
Dog Breed: Black Labrador Retriever / Labrador Retriever (short coat). Some dogs bounce back quickly. Others need a little more time to believe the world can be kind. Miri is one of those dogs, and watching her blossom has been the sweetest thing. Miri is a beautiful 2 year old, 58 pound Black Lab who came to us from the heartbreaking Saunders County hoarding and neglect case. She was one of the 28 Labs rescued, but initially went to one of our wonderful rescue partners with a physical shelter. Unfortunately, the shelter environment was just too overwhelming for this sensitive girl and she wasn’t thriving, so she transferred back to us to experience life in a foster home instead. It has made all the difference. Miri is still a timid girl, but every single day she makes some progress. She is incredibly sweet, gentle, and submissive. She loves curling up beside her foster family in bed or sinking into a cozy dog bed for a nap. She is slowly showing us she feels safe and content now. She adores other dogs and really needs a confident, friendly resident dog or two to help show her that the world isn’t so scary. She loves running around the backyard and playing with her canine friends. Cats don’t bother her one bit, and she’s good with kids, although a home with very young children who are constantly on the go may be a little overwhelming while she continues to build her confidence. Miri is now housebroken and has earned complete freedom in her foster home. She doesn’t need a crate and does great when left loose. The biggest hurdles she’s still working through are leashes and car rides. Both are still unfamiliar and scary for her, so she’ll need an adopter who understands that healing isn’t always a straight line and is willing to let her move at her own pace. She will continue to get there. A secure fenced in yard will be required for her. The perfect home for Miri is one filled with patience, kindness, and unconditional love. She may not be the dog who greets you with zoomies on day one, but if you give her the time she deserves, you’ll have the incredible privilege of watching a once forgotten dog blossom into the incredible companion she was meant to be. Miri is spayed, fully vetted, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, on preventatives, microchipped, and ready for her happy ever after. Her adoption donation is $400. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
